Washington Bill Passed for New Opioid-Assisted Treatment Model

Washington State has passed a new bill that will assist hospitals and practitioners treat opioid use disorder.  Focusing on treatment and prevention, Washington Bill HB 2489 will allow physicians to provide prepackaged overdose medication for patients discharged.  Supporters of this bill acknowledge that the bill has many advantages, including expansion of access to naloxone through a statewide order and mandating electronic health records (EHRs) connect directly to prescription monitoring program (PMP).
